Music Marketing Blogpost #2

My group and I listened to the variety of songs provided, and had to choose one to represent our artist. We listened and discussed and came to the agreement that our artists would be represented by the song "Me and Your Mama." We listened to the song over and over in order to get a feel for the song. After brainstorming and discussing we agreed upon having the plot for our video be about heartbreak. There is a beat switch within the song that we decided could be a turning point in the music video. we could use this beat switch to change the tone and emotion within the music video.

While researching, we made tow charts that consisted of four columns. We found similar artists that were in the same music genre as the song we chose. We had 8 columns in total and 4 members. Each member was responsible for filling out two of the 8 columns. After having our chart filled out, we then created a layout sheet. The sheet allowed us to have our angles, camera shots, ideas, and other elements organized. We came up with a lot of great ideas to incorporate into our film. A group member came up with the idea to incorporate a close up shot of the main characters had while he crushes a can. The crushing of the can will stand for his anger after seeing his ex-girlfriend. We decided that the idea would add a lot to the film and it made it into the final cut.

My group and I agreed on a date to meet up to film. Because we already had the storyboard, it was easy to find real life places that matched the storyboard and film. We met up in our local town center and began filming. We bought our soda can props at the Publix in the town center. As we were filming we would discuss and try to convince one another where the best place to film the shot would be. We would re do shots in order to get the best shots.

In summation, I learned a lot about the marketing world and how music is distributed. I never thought about the technical sides of music videos and how my favorite artists were able to produce such videos. The process takes time and a lot of effort in order to be successful.
