Setting Discussion

The setting in which the film takes place is really important. The setting plays a huge role in helping build the theme, mood, and tone of the film. I'm doing a spy film, meaning that I need to find a theme that fits. My opening is going to involve three different parts. In these three parts the settings will change. The first part will open with the spy sitting in an ally. His face will be hidden but the rest of his body will be visible. The second part will take place in his car. He will be driving to a location that will be revealed in the third part. In the third part, the main character will arrive at a secret location, then there will be a gunshot.  The opening will create a mystery for the viewers. They wont see his face until the very end. In the very end it will show his face for a second with the flash of the gun shot. I have to research more to find the locations near where I live. I also have to figure out how I'm going to film without anyone else help.

Preliminary plot/s sub genre conventions

I have decided on a sub genre for the movie opening. I've decided to create a spy movie opening, I will introduce the main character in the movie opening. He will be  the hero for the fi lm as well. I hope that the movie opening will be able to also introduce what the spy's conflict is. I still need to figure out the setting for the movie opening.  A spy movie typically consists of a main character who has to complete a mission or series of missions. Mission impossible is one of the most well known spy action film series. The series follows Ethan Hunt, he is a world class spy. The film is filled with action, high speed chases, and fast paced scenes and explosions. In my opening I want to have the spy hero sneak around and look stealthy.  In my opening I want a mission briefing in which the main character is given their mission. Although I would like to do this,  I'm on the rocks about it. This is beacuse I don't want to give away the entire plot of the movie away. A m

Types of Action characters

There is a variety of different characters within an action film. I'm only doing an opening so I wont include all types of characters within my opening. A character type stands for the type of person that the actor will portray. Specific character types are present in almost every movie made. There are three main types of characters. The first type is the hero, this character type has the job of fighting the villain. The second character type is the villain. The villain comes in different shapes or forms, and could even be a group of people. The third and final type that I will be exploring is the sidekick. The sidekick is usually side by side with the hero and helps the hero throughout the movie.  The hero is focused on throughout the entire story. It is the character that is most developed throughout the movie, and typically gets the most screen time. Having a hero in my film will have the audience rooting for the hero. the hero should have a back story that is tragic and somew

Representation and Target Audience

the target audience of action movies is typically people from ages 15 to 40. The younger generation likes the adrenaline rush they get from action movies. Knowing the target audience and what they look for is important when making a movie. For my movie opening I have to take into consideration everything that the target audiences want to see. The stunts and action sequences are the most important when it comes to boosting the adrenaline amongst the audience. In my film opening I don't need to depend on the main action sequences to do this. Instead, I can use a smaller action scene. Things like a small fight, gunshot, or explosion. The most important thing for me to do, is to find a way to make an opening that foreshadows that there will be more action scenes. The dialogue and camera shots are another important aspect of action movies. In the movie opening provided with the link, the use of close ups of certain items aid in setting the tone of the film. There is a close up shot of

Action movie film openings

When people go to watch an action movie they expect to be sitting at the edge of their seat the entire time. They constantly want to be asking themselves what will happen next. When they think they know what's going to happen, a sudden and unseen twist should occur. A good action movie opening has to capture the audiences attention right away. There must be something so eye-catching, and entertaining, that it leaves the viewer wanting more. The plot should have the viewer engaged and impressed. Another important part of an action movie opening is that it doesn't need action. There doesn't have to be a huge fiery explosion in order to capture the attention. The viewers attention can be captured in other ways, and they still will be wanting more. I need to create an opening that summarizes the plot without giving away too much. An example of a film that i have looked at for inspiration is the Iron Man series. Iron man is part of the marvel universe who is known to have some

Action Introductory Research

I have decided that i will be doing an action movie. I ran through some plots that I had in mind and came to the conclusion that an action movie would be best. It would not only be the best for me but also the safest, in relation to COVID. An action movie will allow me to incorporate specific shots that I really like, and certain sounds. The action genre has many sub genres that include spy, karate, sci-fi and many more. I wont be doing a super hero or sci-fi moving because that would take a great deal of editing skills that I don't have. I think a spy movie would be best for me.  Action films as a whole are typically face paced and high energy. A lot of them include dangerous and risky stunts, explosions, and chases. I could have a stunt in the opening but, I don't want to give away too much of the plot. In my film opening I will introduce to conflict and stimulate suspense amongst the audience.  OVERVIEW As previously mentioned, action movies are very engaging with their au

Genre Preliminary Discussion

I need to choose a genre that allows me to work independently but not get exhausted while working. This is my first post for the project and I need to find a genre that uses a small amount of people. Due to COVID, I also need to choose a setting in which I am far from people. My two main genres as of right now are Horror comedy and Action. I feel like in order to make an effective opening for these, they must have suspense as well. This is because I want people to want to watch the rest of the movie. I feel like the openings for a movie in either one the genre can be limited to one or two settings. The genres can also fit to accommodate less actors.  Like everything, there are ups and downs. Both film genres have their benefits and their cons. If I chose to do a horror comedy movie, I could film in one setting and create a suspenseful opening. However I will also have to include funny scenes. The problem with horror comedy is that it is hard to produce a good balance between the two.

First AICE Media Studies Project Post

This project is unlike any project we have done in this class. There were many setbacks, like the fact that the class was online the entire school year. Meaning that i was not able to meet other students in the class. I could not make an y new friends to film with and learn from. This project is a mixture of every project we have done in this class. earlier in the year we were assigned a project using only sounds. We were asked to create an atmosphere using only Foley sounds. Movie openings do things like this all the time. Another project we were assigned to do was a music video project. In this project we had to work on the aspects of marketing, and making viewers feel emotions with only the video and music. There was no use of dialogue or any character interaction like that.  I want to be creative with my project and work on it as much as i can over the break. Spring break is a perfect time to film and work on this project. I'm excited, and nervous due to the fact that there a

Music Marketing Blogpost #2

My group and I listened to the variety of songs provided, and had to choose one to represent our artist. We listened and discussed and came to the agreement that our artists would be represented by the song "Me and Your Mama." We listened to the song over and over in order to get a feel for the song. After brainstorming and discussing we agreed upon having the plot for our video be about heartbreak. There is a beat switch within the song that we decided could be a turning point in the music video. we could use this beat switch to change the tone and emotion within the music video.  While researching, we made tow charts that consisted of four columns. We found similar artists that were in the same music genre as the song we chose. We had 8 columns in total and 4 members. Each member was responsible for filling out two of the 8 columns. After having our chart filled out, we then created a layout sheet. The sheet allowed us to have our angles, camera shots, ideas, and other ele

Music Marketing Blogpost #1

My group and I listened to each of the song options provided. We were then inspired, and began to brainstorm on a film for the one song that stuck out to us. We voted and decided to choose the song "Me and Your Mama." We bounced ideas off of each other and talked about what we could do, to capture the feel of the song. When researching, we discovered that the song we selected was a Soul and R&B.  I wanted to close my eyes while listening to the song to help me visualize better. When my eyes were closed I envisioned a rocky relationship. We discussed and decided to make the music video about a man who is in love with someone, that doesn't love them back. We shared a google doc in order to have our ides typed and in front of us. We planned the different scenes that would be seen in our film. We also planned  the different shots and acting methods that would be used in the film. We then began discussing the camera angles and editing methods. We wanted everything to mak
